Bring your current bag into the conversation

Dog-food shelves can make an ordinary refill feel like a competition between promises. Start with the food your dog currently eats and the reason you are shopping. Are you replacing an empty bag, looking for a different pack size, or discussing a change with your vet? Take a photo of the front and back of the current pack. Include the recipe name, life-stage wording and weight. A brand name alone is rarely precise enough.

This guide is a shopping tool for owners in Skopje, not a diet prescription. For a dog with a health condition or a prescribed food, ask the treating vet before changing the product. The shop can help find the exact item and explain availability; that is different from diagnosing what your dog needs.

02

Find the small words with a big job

FEDIAF explains that a food described as complete supplies the required daily nutrients when fed as instructed. Complementary food needs to be used with other food to make a balanced ration. Check that distinction before assuming that a pouch, mixer or treat can replace a normal meal. Also check which animal and life stage the product is intended for.

Turn the bag around and locate the feeding directions, ingredients, analytical information, storage instructions and manufacturer contact. You do not need to decode every technical term in the aisle. Photograph anything unclear and ask a precise question. A shop that cannot answer can help you contact the manufacturer rather than guessing.

03

Compare matching products, then compare costs

Put two offers side by side only after checking that they refer to the same recipe and version. “Chicken, adult, 12 kg” is still not enough if one pack is a different range. Check the full product name and code when available. Online images can show an older pack design, so ask the seller to confirm the item you will receive.

For a simple price comparison, divide the pack price by its weight. To estimate cost over time, use the daily amount in the feeding plan appropriate to your dog, not an invented average portion. A purely illustrative calculation: a 3 kg bag costing 1,200 denars at 100 g per day lasts 30 days and costs 40 denars per day. Those are example numbers, not a Skopje price or a feeding recommendation.

04

Ask about stock before you run out

Choose a refill point while you still have time to ask questions. Message the exact branch with a product photo and ask whether the correct size is in stock now, whether it can be reserved, and what the total collection or delivery price will be. If the product must be ordered, ask for an expected arrival window rather than accepting “soon”.

If offered an alternative, ask exactly what changed: recipe, life stage, pack weight or product line. A similar colour on the bag does not make two foods interchangeable. When a change is appropriate, use the transition instructions from the manufacturer or your vet. Do not create an improvised plan from a sales caption.

05

Check the bag you actually receive

At collection or delivery, compare the product with your confirmation. Look at the seal, pack condition, date and batch details. Keep the receipt and a photo of the label until you have finished the bag. If the packaging is damaged or the product differs from the order, contact the seller before opening it and keep clear photographs.

Follow the product’s storage directions and keep its identifying information. If you transfer food into another container, retain the original label and batch reference. Put the opening date somewhere visible. The practical goal is traceability: if you need help later, you can tell the shop or manufacturer exactly which product you bought.

06

Create a refill note that saves time

Keep one short note with the product name, pack size, branch, purchase date and last paid price. Record delivery charges separately so the comparison stays fair. Add the link to the shop’s product page, but check it again when you reorder. Promotions are temporary and a past receipt is not a promise of the next price.

Use fluffinn to find Skopje pet shops, save a couple of local options and contact them directly. Choose the purchase that fits the agreed feeding plan and your household routine. Fancy packaging can be fun. Clear product information, dependable stock and a sensible way to reorder are what make the next month easier.

Your quick checklist

  • Match species, life stage, recipe and pack size.
  • Check complete or complementary wording.
  • Compare the actual total and an appropriate daily-cost estimate.
  • Confirm stock and keep the label, batch reference and receipt.
