The short answer

Calculate food, hygiene, care and paid services separately. In our example, 6 kg of consumed Brit Premium Adult M food and 60 waste bags cost about MKD 1,384 for 30 days. That covers food and bags only, not the full cost of owning a dog. Buying the complete 15 kg sack and bag pack requires MKD 3,287 upfront, before delivery and other expenses.

Prices were checked on 11 October 2026 at Macedonian retailers and a local service provider. These are specific offers and calculation examples, not a national average or feeding recommendation. Confirm discounts, stock and final delivery charges before buying.

01

Which local prices can you use as a starting point?

Start with the exact pack you buy. A price for a 12 kg sack cannot be compared directly with the price for 15 kg. The table shows two different foods and one hygiene product so you can check your own calculation.

These foods have different formulas and are not nutritionally interchangeable simply because they appear in one table. Price per kilogram is a budgeting tool; the appropriate food depends on the individual dog.

How do you calculate 30 days of food?

The formula is: pack price ÷ kilograms in the pack × kilograms used over 30 days. Our example assumes 6 kg of consumption, mathematically equivalent to 200 g daily. This is not advice on how much your dog should eat. Use your dog's appropriate diet and actual measured consumption.

For the 15 kg Brit Premium sack: 3,172 ÷ 15 × 6 = MKD 1,268.80 of consumed food. At the same assumed quantity, the 12 kg Brit Care sack gives 5,292 ÷ 12 × 6 = MKD 2,646. This illustrates a cost difference without claiming that equal quantities of the two formulas should be fed.

Record the opening date, remaining quantity and any additional meals or treats. If some of the diet is wet food, calculate it separately. Avoid counting both a complete dry-food allowance and a complete wet-food allowance when your dog actually eats a combination.

Why are monthly consumption and the checkout bill different?

You pay for a large pack today even when some remains for next month. Our example assumes that you use 6 kg of food and one 60-bag pack in 30 days. Both quantities are calculation assumptions, not expected consumption for every dog.

If you have no food at home, the whole sack and bags require 3,172 + 115 = MKD 3,287. The portion used over 30 days costs 1,268.80 + 115 = MKD 1,383.80. The difference remains as 9 kg of food stock, assuming no waste. Keep both numbers in your budget: what you consume and when you must pay for the next pack.

What changes when you use a walker or groomer?

Budget paid help using the actual number of appointments. SCOOBER publishes MKD 400 for a 30-minute walk. Four such walks in a month cost MKD 1,600 before any separately agreed extras. The example covering consumed food, bags and four walks then reaches MKD 2,983.80, or about MKD 2,984. Other needs are still excluded.

For grooming, request a price for your dog's size, coat and specific service package. With a confirmed price and schedule, divide the annual cost by 12 to set money aside each month. Do not assume bathing, clipping, nails and detangling are always one service.

If you travel, maintain a separate line for boarding or sitting, transport and drop-off or collection days. A holiday month should not automatically carry the same budget as a month spent at home.

Which expenses must stay in the budget?

Put first purchases and regular care in separate columns. A lead and bed are not bought every month, but their absence from this month's receipt does not make them free.

For veterinary care, request a plan and estimate for your particular dog, then enter the confirmed amounts. You can divide planned annual expenses by 12. An emergency reserve does not guarantee that every bill will be covered; we do not invent a universal amount here.

  • Initial equipment: bowls, a suitable lead and collar or harness, a bed, brush and carrier when needed.
  • Repeat purchases: food, waste bags, hygiene products and treats you actually use.
  • Planned services: veterinary visits, agreed preventive care, grooming, walking and care during absences.
  • Irregular items: replacement of damaged equipment, transport, additional cleaning and unexpected veterinary costs.
06

Which problems most often upset the calculation?

A sale price is not a reliable price for your next purchase. To test the budget, at the crossed-out MKD 3,525 price the same 6 kg in the first example would cost MKD 1,410 instead of MKD 1,268.80. That is a difference of MKD 141.20. We are not presenting the crossed-out amount as a guaranteed future price.

Delivery, expiry dates and storage space can change the calculation. Milenici.mk advertises free delivery for orders over MKD 1,500; check whether the condition applies to your address and basket. Two separate orders from two retailers do not automatically share one delivery charge.

A cheap pack that you cannot use completely is not always better value. Check the label, storage instructions and actual consumption before buying a larger sack. Do not change a suitable diet just to fit this example.

How can you get comparable quotes in Skopje?

Make a short list with the exact food name, pack size, quantities of hygiene products and required appointments. Send the same list to the shops or providers you are comparing. This produces quotes for the same needs, instead of simply the lowest starting price.

Browse Skopje pet shops, groomers, walkers and vets on Fluffinn. Before purchasing or booking, ask about stock, the final price, delivery, inclusions and payment timing. After the first 30 days, replace the assumptions with your actual receipts.

Your quick checklist

  • Record the exact pack and price, including whether it is discounted.
  • Measure real 30-day consumption without changing meals to fit a budget example.
  • Separate consumed products from complete packs that must be paid for.
  • Add actual quotes for care, services, delivery and initial equipment.
  • Review the budget after the first month.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a dog cost per month in North Macedonia?

There is no single verified amount that applies to every dog. Our example of about MKD 1,384 covers only 6 kg of one discounted food and 60 waste bags. Add your own veterinary care, grooming, services, delivery and reserves to create a useful full budget.

Sources: [1][3]
Is 6 kg of food a recommended monthly amount?

No. It is an assumption used to demonstrate the calculation. Requirements vary by dog and food. For budgeting, use the appropriate amount for your dog and your own measured consumption.

Is a larger sack always better value?

Compare the price per kilogram of the same product, expiry, storage requirements and the quantity you will actually use. A larger sack requires more money upfront; a lower unit price does not help when leftover food is discarded.

How do I budget for vets and grooming when they are not monthly?

Get a specific estimate and schedule, calculate the planned annual amount and divide it by 12. Keep this separate from a reserve for unexpected costs. A month without an appointment does not mean that care is free.

Does the example include delivery?

No. The example calculates products and services separately. Milenici.mk displays free delivery above MKD 1,500, but confirm the conditions for your address and basket with the shop. Ask other retailers for their own delivery quote.
