Describe the stay your dog actually needs
A dog hotel is not one single kind of service. A daytime visit, an overnight room and care in someone’s home can have very different routines. Start with your dates, approximate drop-off and collection times, and your dog’s usual day. Write down feeding times, sleeping arrangements, comfort around other dogs and anything the carer needs to know. Honest details help a provider tell you whether the stay is a good fit.
Shortlist two or three Skopje options and request a conversation before paying. Ask whether the service is provided at the address shown, whether transport is included and who will be responsible for your dog. A beautiful photograph is useful for atmosphere; it cannot answer those operational questions.
Visit and ask to see the everyday setup
Ask for a visit at an agreed time and look at the areas your dog would actually use. The RSPCA’s general welfare guidance highlights secure surroundings, a place to rest, appropriate exercise and monitoring. Use those as practical prompts, not as a statement of North Macedonian licensing law. Ask how the provider keeps dogs apart when they need space and how the day changes for a dog who does not enjoy group play.
Make the conversation specific: “Where will my dog sleep? Who checks overnight? Where do toilet breaks happen? What do you do if two dogs do not get along?” Ask whether you will meet the person delivering the care. If the service sounds unsuitable after the visit, keep looking rather than hoping the routine will somehow change when you arrive.
Put the routine and emergency contact in writing
Create a one-page handover note with your contact, a reachable backup person and your vet’s contact details. Record the feeding instructions you normally use and any care instructions supplied by your vet. Ask the provider how they handle an illness, an escape risk, a delayed collection or difficulty contacting you. Decide what information and authorisation they need before the stay begins.
Ask which health documents the provider requires and how far ahead they need them. Requirements differ, so obtain the actual list rather than relying on an old social post. Medication or specialist care should be discussed with the provider and your vet before booking, not introduced as a surprise at drop-off.
Compare the total for your exact dates
Request a written quote that names the dates, arrival and departure windows, number of pets and included services. Clarify whether the business charges by night, calendar day or another period. An overnight price alone does not tell you what a late-afternoon collection will cost. Ask about food, transport, extra walks, holiday supplements and any separate care charges relevant to your dog.
Read the cancellation and deposit terms before sending payment. Find out what happens if your travel plans change and whether a deposit moves to another date. We do not fill missing prices with guesses. The most useful price is the provider’s current total for the stay you are actually booking, with optional extras clearly separated.
Prepare a handover that someone else can follow
Pack agreed food in clearly labelled portions or with an unambiguous measuring instruction. Label belongings and confirm which bedding or toys the provider accepts. Take a photograph of everything you hand over so collection is simple. Keep the original packaging or product information where it helps the carer identify what you brought. Do not assume the provider will recognise your household scoop.
Confirm the arrival appointment the day before, including the correct entrance and contact number. Build enough time into your schedule to hand over calmly. Give a concise version of the care note verbally, then leave the written copy. Agree how and when you will receive updates so both sides know what to expect while you are away.
Review the fit after the first stay
At collection, ask how your dog ate, rested and spent the day, and whether the provider noticed anything you should follow up. Check the belongings against your photo and settle any agreed balance against the written quote. Save the useful details for a future booking, including what worked and what you would change.
Use fluffinn’s hotel and daycare listings as a starting point for those conversations. A provider who suits one dog may not suit another, and a familiar routine can matter more than an impressive-looking room. Choose a stay you can explain clearly to the person taking over care. Then the suitcase can finally have your attention.
