There is no single final price for every veterinary visit. The Veterinary Chamber's published minimum schedule lists a general examination at MKD 600. This is a minimum examination item, not a complete treatment quote. Ask the individual clinic for an estimate of your actual total.
Checked on 11 October 2026. The table is a selection from the Chamber's 2025 schedule, not a survey of Skopje clinics. We did not find enough comparable current clinic offers to calculate a market average.
Which prices can we verify?
The Chamber announced that its new schedule was adopted on 12 August 2025. Its announcement explains that the schedule establishes minimum thresholds, with prices above them set freely. Use the figures as an initial reference, not a promised price at your chosen vet.
Every item below comes from the companion-animal section. For an individual quote, explain whether you have a dog or cat, why you want an appointment and whether you need a regular appointment or attendance outside opening hours.
| Service | Minimum fee | Unit and scope |
|---|---|---|
| General examinationSources: [2] | MKD 600 | Per animal; examination item only |
| Second opinionSources: [2] | MKD 1,000 | Per animal; consultation |
| X-raySources: [2] | MKD 800 | Per projection |
| Abdominal ultrasoundSources: [2] | MKD 1,200 | For the listed examination |
What makes up the total bill?
When asking for an estimate, divide the visit into four parts: examination, possible tests, proposed procedures and products or materials. Ask the clinic which items are confirmed and which depend on its findings. That gives you a consistent scope to compare.
The schedule's notes include 18% VAT and separate charges for medicines, consumables and implants, with specific exceptions in the document. Check exactly what your individual quote includes.
Veterinaren Centar in Skopje lists ultrasound, X-ray, ECG and laboratory services. The University Veterinary Hospital describes laboratory and ultrasound diagnostics. These local examples show why “How much is a check-up?” does not cover every possible service. They do not mean your pet needs all those tests.
- Examination: what does the first appointment include?
- Diagnostics: which tests are proposed and what does each cost?
- Procedures: are anaesthesia, professional work and monitoring separate items?
- After the visit: are the follow-up and explanation of results included?
How do separate items change an estimate?
Here is an arithmetic illustration using published minima only: one general examination and two X-ray projections would total 600 + 2 × 800 = MKD 2,200 for those three items. This is not a clinic package, a final bill or a recommendation to obtain X-rays.
If the vet proposes imaging, ask how many projections are planned and what else is included. Do not assemble a treatment plan yourself from a price list. The vet assesses the clinical need; your role is to request a clear explanation of its cost.
In your own notes, separate confirmed items, possible additions and the agreed way to contact you if the estimate changes. Request an updated estimate once the scope of the service becomes clearer.
Sources: [2]Does a night or Sunday visit cost more?
The schedule sets increases of 50% for night work between 22:00 and 06:00 and overtime, and 100% for Sundays and public holidays. Before travelling, ask the clinic how it calculates your particular appointment.
Do not assume every clinic has an on-call team because it displays a phone number. Call to confirm it can receive you, the exact address and where to go if it cannot. This guide does not confirm 24-hour availability for any business.
If you think the situation is urgent, contact a vet immediately. Do not delay seeking help to compare prices. Explain any financial constraints during the conversation.
Sources: [2]How can you compare two quotes fairly?
For a planned visit, send both clinics the same description. Record the date, service, whether the quote is approximate and what could change it. A low starting fee and a broader package are not directly comparable.
Ask whether a proposed test is performed at the clinic or through another facility, and how you will receive results. If you already have reports, ask whether to send them beforehand. Do not assume a previous result automatically replaces a fresh assessment.
Alongside cost, compare availability for your species of pet, practical access, how clearly the plan is explained and communication after the appointment. We do not rank medical quality by price.
Keep the estimate with the final itemised bill. If a charge is unclear, ask which service it covers and whether it was part of the original estimate or added after the examination. Clear records help you plan subsequent appointments without relying on memory.
What should you ask when booking?
You can use this message: “Hello, I would like to book an examination for my dog/cat. The reason is [brief description]. What is the first examination fee, what does it include and which additional costs can only be estimated after the examination? I have previous reports. Should I send them?”
For a planned procedure, add questions about required tests, anaesthesia, medicines, hospitalisation, follow-up and payment method. Ask for individual amounts in writing instead of relying on a single figure remembered from a phone call.
Bring the documentation you have and a list of current products or medicines. Follow the clinic's instructions about preparation, food or water before the appointment.
Next step: find a vet in Skopje
Open Fluffinn's veterinary listings, check the location and contact details, then request an estimate using the same questions. Confirm the opening hours and service directly before travelling.
For your household budget, keep actual invoices and future confirmed appointments separate from food and everyday shopping. A single visit is not enough to establish an “average annual veterinary cost” for every pet.
Your quick checklist
- Appointment and availability for my species confirmed.
- Examination price and scope explained.
- Separate prices for the proposed tests.
- Extra charges, follow-up and payment clarified.
- Previous reports ready, with a contact for estimate changes.
Frequently asked questions
Is MKD 600 the final vet visit price in Skopje?
No. It is the published minimum general-examination item in the schedule we checked. The individual clinic confirms its own fee and additional services.
Sources: [1][2]Does the examination fee include blood tests and X-rays?
Do not assume that it does. Ask the clinic to list the examination scope and the price of each proposed test separately.
How do I get an estimate before the appointment?
Send a short description, your pet's species and previous reports if available. Ask for the starting fee and an explanation of what can only be estimated after examination.
Are all directory vets open 24 hours?
No. A directory listing does not confirm on-call cover. Telephone for current availability and directions before travelling.
Can I compare prices during an emergency?
First contact a vet immediately for availability and guidance. Discuss costs and your constraints during that contact, without delaying the request for help.
